Texturel.

Texturel is a digital ‘oracle’ design tool or ‘oracle. ’ Via a touch screen interface, a user’s hand gestures (swipes, taps, drags, pinches, etc.,) can activate over 39 billion phrases, statements or word combinations, drawn from the program’s eight grammatical folders. The generative program will generate never repeating textual instructions that subject to subjective interpretation by a user/designer can offer unconventional ideas and outcomes as part of a fashion design process.

Texturel is purposefully about not beginning from such an established, known, or customary design place, questioning how fashion might be less about conventional goal or completion-orientated approaches – finished or complete garments, artefacts, literature or retail environments – but rather as developing strategies, technologies, ideas and thinking towards aims which are not known at the outset of a process.

Texturel was shown as part of Coded_Couture US touring exhibition. 2016 –2018.
